A square box blends in. A heart or a pyramid does not. Shape tells a customer in a second that your product is a gift and not an everyday item. It also gives you a box people photograph, share and keep.
A good shaped box is more than an outline, though. It has to fold cleanly, hold the product and ship flat. So we design every custom shaped box around what goes inside, and cut the shape second.

Die-cutting presses your shape from flat board with a steel blade. Straight edges and gentle curves cut cleanly. Tight corners and thin points are harder, and a very sharp pyramid tip can tear or crush under a lid.
So we simplify where we need to. We might round a point, widen a neck or move a fold. The shape keeps its character and the box survives packing.
Weight matters as well. A hexagon holding a light favour can be a thin carton. The same hexagon holding a glass jar needs a firmer base. Tell us the weight and we match the board to it.
Gift buying comes in waves, and a shape that fits the moment sells better than a plain box.

A shaped box often has awkward corners. An insert turns that space into a snug fit.
Keep the insert easy to lift out so customers can open the box without a struggle.
A window works in many shapes too. Leave enough board around the opening so the box holds its form. We will tell you if a window is too large for the shape you have chosen.

Rigid boxes cost more and take more room to store. Folding cartons ship flat and keep costs down. Choose by weight, price point and how the box will travel.
Plan artwork around the folds and keep logos clear of the cut lines. Shaped boxes have fewer flat areas than square ones, so simple designs usually look best.

Low minimum orders let you test a shape before you commit. A small first batch shows how the box looks on a shelf and in the hand. Reorder when it sells, and bring the cost per box down with larger runs.
Ask yourself three things. Does the shape suit the product, or only the mood? Will it still pack and ship easily? Can the customer open it without damaging it?
